The latest news from The Scottish Art Scene

The Scottish Arts Club in Edinburgh will host the inaugural Scottish Portrait Awards Exhibition, which has around 30 fine art and 30 photographic works and it will be a great chance to immerse ourselves in all aspects of portraiture. The judges are all highly successful in their elected fields of Scottish art and each has a well trained and sympathetic eye for portraiture and artistic insight. This year's selected work demonstrates this for me, as each piece expresses the subject's mood, character and temperament in an individual and uncompromising way. I particularly like "The King of Scotland" by Steve Paterson, a very expressive sculpture whose subject's thoughtful pose indicates great strength of character. Scotland has many excellent sculptors who would fit very well into this prestigious exhibition. I hope to see more of them submit their work next year. Here is a small selection of the artists you will see when you visit the exhibition.
