Moira Third

I live and work from my studio in Crathie, a small highland community in Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park. A romantic sense of North is always present in my work as is the hint of the fairytale.

I am fascinated by the idea that viewers create their own narrative around objects when they are placed together in the picture plane. However, although I purposely leave interpretation open, my  intention is always to evoke quiet contemplation.

Thread has historically been used in visual storytelling, though less traditionally I begin by hand painting heavyweight Artist canvas before layering with millions of tiny stitches, made using just the needle and straight stitch on a domestic sewing machine together with a profusion of richly coloured thread.

I studied Fine Art at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen and have both an Honours and a Masters degree from there.
