My studio lies about 12 miles south of Edinburgh, therefore I travel to many locations to gather information for paintings and depend quite a lot on internet weather forecasts, particularly as areas such as Fort William and Braemar seem to have an eco system of their own.
I especially like the variety of weather conditions that the autumn to spring months presents in the Grampian, Perthshire and west highlands locations. This gives me the opportunity to use all the warm friendly earth colours that I like and allows me to work in a midge free environment.
The summer months are often spent working around the East Lothian coastline using a similar earth colour palette and way out of reach of the dreaded midge.
